Design & Symbolism
Obverse
Benito Juárez and the Palacio Nacional remain the principal images, while the official signature area now includes the added DIRECCION GENERAL line alongside the other signatories. The expanded institutional text distinguishes this later form without disturbing the established composition. Its blue, black, red, and green tonality carries evenly through the subject, inscriptions and denomination markings.
Reverse
The reverse retains the Zapotec funerary urn from an Aztec temple, surrounded by the bank seal and guilloche work. Its continuity with the earlier design makes the changes on the front especially easy to read. Formal Spanish lettering and value indicators occupy the areas around the principal image.
Collector’s Insight
For collectors, this issue is the later development of the Juárez 50-peso type, distinguished from the immediately preceding form by the added Dirección General signature while keeping the established artwork intact.
