Brown engraving and a newly styled socialist coat of arms define a pared-back one-tögrög design, noticeably more compact and institutional than the 1955 issue.
Design & Symbolism
Obverse
The front centers on the socialist coat of arms with Mongolian text, omitting the Sükhbaatar portrait used on the preceding one-tögrög design. The composition is compact and emblem-led. Official inscriptions and denomination figures are kept subordinate to the likeness, so the portrait carries the composition without visual competition.
Reverse
On the back, Mongolian text and guilloche engraving continue the austere ornamental language of the series. With no pictorial vignette, the design remains functional and restrained. Official inscriptions and denomination figures are organised around the object, giving its shape and decorative detail space to remain legible.
Collector’s Insight
For collectors, the 1966 one-tögrög issue opens a redesigned series that was physically smaller than the 1955 notes, introduced a new coat of arms and moved the serial numbers from the front to the back.
