Green engraving concentrates the 1955 design around Sükhbaatar and the socialist coat of arms, giving the unusual three-tögrög denomination a compact, formal character.
Design & Symbolism
Obverse
Damdinii Sükhbaatar and the socialist coat of arms share the front beneath Cyrillic Mongolian text. The green engraving and compact ornamental framework keep both portrait and emblem visually balanced. The portrait is treated as the narrative centre, with the surrounding inscriptions and denomination arranged as a restrained graphic frame.
Reverse
Mongolian text sits within layered guilloche engraving on the reverse, with no separate pictorial vignette. The geometry keeps the back focused on security engraving rather than illustration. Official inscriptions and denomination figures are distributed around the main imagery, creating a clear hierarchy across the printed field.
Collector’s Insight
For collectors, the three-tögrög denomination preserves a denomination already present in Mongolia’s earlier issues while the 1955 redesign records the wider move from traditional Mongolian script to Cyrillic on circulating money.
