Sükhbaatar reappears in blue beside the socialist coat of arms, carrying the compact 1966 design system into an issue dated 1981.
Design & Symbolism
Obverse
Damdinii Sükhbaatar appears with the socialist coat of arms and Mongolian inscriptions across a compact blue front. Portrait and emblem are treated as equal expressions of revolutionary memory and state authority. A blue palette carries from the principal motif into the surrounding typography and value markings.
Reverse
The reverse consists of Mongolian text and guilloche engraving without a pictorial vignette. Its quiet geometric structure leaves the historical and political emphasis entirely on the front. The design is held together by blue tones that continue across image, text and denomination.
Collector’s Insight
For collectors, the 1981 issue demonstrates the durability of Mongolia’s 1966-era design system: Sükhbaatar and the socialist emblem remained familiar circulation imagery even as the series moved into its final decade.
