Brown engraving frames Sükhbaatar and the Soyombo symbol on the front, while grazing horses, fir trees and mountains create a pastoral reverse.
Design & Symbolism
Obverse
Damdinii Sükhbaatar appears in a peaked hat beside the Soyombo symbol and Mongolian inscriptions. The broader format gives the portrait and surrounding line work more room than on the smaller denominations. Typography and value numerals occupy the remaining field in a supporting role, preserving the portrait as the dominant element.
Reverse
The reverse returns to two grazing horses, fir trees and mountains, extending the pastoral imagery used throughout the lower 1993 tögrög series. The spacious landscape tempers the formal authority of the front. Mongolian lettering supplies the formal context, accompanied by denomination figures placed around the pictorial subject.
Collector’s Insight
For collectors, the 50-tögrög note closes the low-denomination Sükhbaatar sequence of the 1993 family before the series moves to larger denominations centered on Chinggis Khaan, making it a natural transition point within a type set.
