Violet engraving carries a tram across the Bou Regreg and opens towards Casablanca's mosque, joining two cities beneath a royal portrait.
Design & Symbolism
Obverse
King Mohammed VI appears beside ornament derived from a Moroccan doorway, with the kingdom's arms and a crowned star completing the principal motifs. His portrait is modelled in dark violet against a lighter field. Orange and blue details appear within the predominantly purple doorway ornament and surrounding engraving.
Reverse
A rail vehicle crosses the Hassan II Bridge over the Bou Regreg in Rabat, while the Hassan II Mosque and Casablanca's buildings occupy another part of the view. The two places form a montage, not a continuous skyline. Both landmarks bear Hassan II's name, but they belong to different cities.
Collector’s Insight
For collectors, the printed 1433–2012 date precedes the note's introduction on 19 December 2013. It is the opening 20-dirham type of that design family, with Safir–Jouahri signatures. The distinction between printed year and release year explains why the same violet issue may be described as either 2012 or 2013 in different cataloguing contexts.
