ThemeIndustry & Infrastructure

Green fields connect Ouzoud's falling water with solar mirrors, wind turbines and reservoirs, giving the landscape a new engineered counterpart.

Design & Symbolism

Obverse

A stylised view of Ouzoud Falls accompanies Mohammed VI's portrait and the Moroccan arms. Doorway-inspired ornament and paired five-pointed stars organise the green field, while the denomination changes colour when tilted. The falls, previously prominent on the 50-dirham reverse, now become a smaller companion to the king on the front.

Reverse

The Noor solar installation at Ouarzazate, wind turbines, Ouirgane dam and Agadir's seawater-desalination plant share the reverse with saffron flowers. The combination covers electricity generation, water storage and water treatment. Bank Al-Maghrib describes clean energy and the protection of natural resources as the subjects of this new design.

Collector’s Insight

For collectors, P-80 bears the date 1445–2023 but entered circulation on 30 July 2024. It opens the renewed 50-dirham design with Manchoud–Jouahri signatures. Although released during the king's twenty-fifth enthronement-anniversary celebrations, it is part of the new circulating series; the occasion should not be confused with a separately overprinted commemorative variety.
