The 1975 flag-raising at Machava stadium dominates a green, yellow and orange front beside Eduardo Mondlane, while crowds and memorial imagery fill the reverse.
Design & Symbolism
Obverse
Five FRELIMO soldiers raise the flag on 25 June 1975 at Machava stadium in Lourenço Marques (now Maputo), while Eduardo Mondlane appears at right beside the national coat of arms. The use of green, yellow, and orange creates a consistent ground for the illustration, official text and value figures.
Reverse
Soldiers carrying a flag march before crowds of civilians, joined by the star-shaped monument in Maputo’s Praça dos Heróis and a civil-war mural. The bank logo with its hoe-and-pickaxe motif sits among the crowded historical imagery. Around the main motif, Portuguese text and denomination numerals complete the printed field.
Collector’s Insight
For collectors, the front fixes the flag-raising to 25 June 1975 at Machava stadium—the day Mozambique became independent from Portugal—while the reverse extends the liberation narrative through marching soldiers, crowds and memorial imagery.
