Across a cool blue field, a guardian chinthe faces the movement of racing boats and the public spectacle of Yangon's Kandawgyi Lake.
Design & Symbolism
Obverse
Facing left, the seated chinthe occupies a cool field of gray, blue and purple engraving. Burmese bank text and the one-kyat denomination stretch across the centre, while the dark red serial number runs through the pale margin. The guardian figure, familiar from the entrances of Burmese pagodas and monasteries, gives the small note a firm sculptural presence.
Reverse
Racing boats cross Kandawgyi Lake in Yangon, their long hulls and crews arranged beneath the silhouette of Karaweik Hall. The broad waterline opens the compact reverse and shifts the note from a stationary guardian to collective movement. English inscriptions remain close to the borders, allowing the regatta and its lakeside setting to carry the scene.
Collector’s Insight
For collectors, P-69(2) is identified by a dark red serial number without ultraviolet fluorescence and a CBM watermark formed from coarser letters. These features distinguish it from P-69(1), whose artwork is otherwise unchanged. Attribution therefore depends on ultraviolet response and watermark structure rather than the visible design.
