Blue-violet engraving moves from a monumental chinthe to artisans restoring temple ornament, joining protection, skill and architectural memory.
Design & Symbolism
Obverse
A large chinthe faces right across a blue-violet, blue-green and dark brown field. The guardian is modelled with dense engraved shading, while Burmese inscriptions and layered rosettes occupy the centre. Large corner values and the pale watermark space establish the denomination without weakening the chinthe's sculptural presence.
Reverse
Stucco workers restore a temple and its surrounding grounds, with figures, tools and architectural detail gathered inside a circular vignette. The scene gives equal weight to manual skill and the structure being preserved. English bank text and the written value remain low in the frame, allowing the restoration work to define the reverse.
Collector’s Insight
For collectors, P-74b marks the security-thread change within this hundred-kyat design. The earlier P-74a used a solid thread printed in Burmese, whereas this variety carries a windowed thread with demetalized SPW lettering. Introduced on 17 July 1996, it preserves the same artwork while documenting a clear production upgrade that can be identified without relying on the serial number alone.
