Formal blue engraving joins General Aung San's portrait with Myanmar's national legislature, giving the denomination a distinctly civic identity.
Design & Symbolism
Obverse
General Aung San wears national dress and a gaungbaung, his portrait placed slightly right of centre within blue, gold and pale red security patterns. Burmese inscriptions and a written denomination occupy the left field. Vertical serial characters and short tactile bars line the right edge, while a colour-shifting windowed thread divides the two halves.
Reverse
The Pyidaungsu Hluttaw complex in Naypyidaw extends across the reverse as a long sequence of tiered roofs and formal halls. Its low horizontal profile contrasts with the upright portrait on the face. English bank text, repeated corner values and a broad ornamental border frame the Assembly of the Union's legislature buildings without obscuring their symmetry.
Collector’s Insight
For collectors, P-86 is often catalogued as an undated 2019 design, but the title uses 2020 because the new note entered public circulation in January 2020 around the 72nd anniversary of independence. It restored General Aung San to Myanmar's circulating banknotes after roughly three decades and began the modern portrait sequence later joined by the 500-kyat P-85.
