Cool blue-green engraving sets a vigilant chinthe against an elephant at work in the forest, giving the note a strong sense of weight and movement.
Design & Symbolism
Obverse
A seated chinthe faces left beside Burmese inscriptions and a dark written denomination. Blue and green guilloche spreads through the background, while orange accents and a large value tablet add contrast along the borders. The guardian fills much of the face, leaving the pale watermark field and red serial number to open the composition.
Reverse
A mahout rides an elephant as it drags a log through a forest, presenting timber work through the partnership of human direction and animal power. The elephant's forward movement carries the scene across the note, while the trees provide depth behind it. English bank text, a large central value and restrained blue-green ornament frame the working landscape.
Collector’s Insight
For collectors, this 2004 issue reduces the earlier 200-kyat chinthe design while retaining the elephant-logging scene. The smaller format, windowed security thread and revised watermark establish a distinct new production type rather than a simple date change. It entered circulation on 30 September 2004 alongside the matching 500-kyat note.
