ThemeSport & Traditional Games

Dark brown engraving holds a vigilant chinthe on one side and chinlone players on the other, moving from guardianship to communal play.

Design & Symbolism

Obverse

Dark brown and blue-green engraving gives the right-facing chinthe a dense, sculptural weight. Burmese lettering and the denomination sit beside the guardian figure, while pale ornamental fields provide space for the watermark. The composition treats the chinthe less as decoration than as the stable emblem around which the value is organised.

Reverse

A group of players keeps a woven cane ball in motion during chinlone, Myanmar's traditional cane-ball game. Their loose circle and varied poses replace the stillness of the face with balance, timing and shared control. English bank text frames the scene, while muted linework keeps the human figures legible within the compact 130 mm format.

Collector’s Insight

For collectors, P-70b is the regular-serial form of the later five-kyat production and should be kept distinct from the P-70br replacement note. Both share the same chinthe and chinlone design, so attribution depends on issue details rather than imagery. As the lowest value in the 5, 10 and 20 kyat chinthe group, it introduces the series through an indigenous game rather than a state monument.
