ThemeCultural Heritage

Warm earth tones frame a left-facing chinthe and a lacquerware workshop, pairing a guardian emblem with Myanmar's decorative craft tradition.

Design & Symbolism

Obverse

A seated chinthe faces left within a dense field of red-brown, tan and dark brown engraving. Burmese bank text and the fifty-kyat denomination fill the centre, while the guardian's upright silhouette anchors the right side. Repeated value devices, fine guilloche and the pale watermark area keep the broad 146 mm note carefully balanced.

Reverse

A seated lacquerware worker is surrounded by bowls, plates, vases and urns, turning the reverse into a compact workshop scene. The objects are arranged across the foreground and around the artisan rather than isolated as ornaments. English bank text and the written denomination frame a living craft practice that remains closely associated with Myanmar's material culture.

Collector’s Insight

For collectors, P-73b(1) records a specific variety within the later fifty-kyat production. Its BY prefix falls inside the documented AM-FQ sequence, while the chinthe-and-50 watermark separates this group from earlier notes carrying a chinthe alone. Those details justify retaining the full Pick suffix even though the principal artwork remained unchanged.
