ThemeArt & Music

Muted purple and brown engraving gathers around a Burmese harp, bringing music and measured ornament to Myanmar's smallest paper denomination.

Design & Symbolism

Obverse

A traditional Burmese harp forms the main image, its curved neck and boat-shaped body placed beside Burmese lettering and compact value figures. Purple, brown and orange guilloche radiates around the instrument without obscuring its silhouette. The absence of a portrait gives the face an unusually quiet cultural focus within the Central Bank of Myanmar's early series.

Reverse

The reverse abandons pictorial imagery for layered guilloche, with a violet rosette at the centre and the written value running across it. Burmese and English inscriptions share the field, while the denomination is repeated at the corners and along the right border. Fine curves and restrained colour shifts make the security engraving itself the subject of the design.

Collector’s Insight

For collectors, this is the only fractional value in the Central Bank of Myanmar group that followed the 1990 one-kyat note. Introduced on 27 March 1994, it also lacks a security thread. The harp gives the small denomination a distinctive subject that was not repeated on the higher values of the series.
