Brown and purple engraving connects a right-facing chinthe with the heat and activity of a traditional bronze-casting workshop.
Design & Symbolism
Obverse
A right-facing chinthe dominates the face in brown, purple and brown-orange engraving. Burmese text and the denomination are set into green and orange guilloche, with a pale watermark field opening the right margin. Strong border values and the guardian's compact profile give the reduced-size note a dense but controlled structure.
Reverse
Men cast bronze, work on a statue of Maha Bandoola and haul water through an active workshop. The central standing figure rises above the surrounding labour, while furnaces, vessels and buildings extend the scene into the background. English bank text and the five-hundred-kyat denomination sit within a broad lower band beneath the craft activity.
Collector’s Insight
For collectors, this 500-kyat note is the companion to the reduced-format 200-kyat issue introduced on 30 September 2004. It preserves the bronze-casting subject of the earlier large-format note while adding a windowed security thread. Placed beside its predecessor, it documents how Myanmar adapted established artwork to a more compact circulation format.
