Everest, Garud Narayan and three blackbucks carry Nepal's ten-rupee note from sacred imagery into a quiet wildlife landscape.

Design & Symbolism

Obverse

Mount Everest replaces the former royal portrait at left, while Garud Narayan from Changu Narayan Temple occupies the centre amid brown, green and lilac engraving. Nepali inscriptions and a coin obverse complete the upper field, and the broad watermark area at right contains the rhododendron adopted for the post-monarchy series.

Reverse

Three blackbucks graze among scattered trees, their long horns and slender bodies forming the reverse's central group. The Nepal Rastra Bank emblem sits above the scene and bilingual values follow the lower edge; the national coat of arms used on earlier royal notes is absent, leaving a lighter and more open woodland composition.

Collector’s Insight

For collectors, P-61a is the opening signature variety of the republican ten-rupee type, issued in September 2008 under acting governor Krishna Bahadur Manandhar. Its value lies in a careful continuity: the Garud Narayan and blackbuck subjects remain familiar, but Everest and the rhododendron watermark replace the royal portrait and crown that had defined the preceding issues.
