The familiar temple-and-deer design gains an explicit date, turning a long-running composition into a clearly fixed 2012 issue.
Design & Symbolism
Obverse
Mount Everest and the Krishna Temple of Patan remain the principal subjects, with Garuda poised on a column between the architecture and the open watermark field. Nepali inscriptions and the coin motif sit within orange-brown engraving, while the date at the lower centre gives the front a chronological marker absent from P-62.
Reverse
A single swamp deer stands among trees against a mountain backdrop. The reverse now names Nepal Rastra Bank in English above the animal and prints the 2012 A.D. date below, two modest textual additions that distinguish this dated issue without disturbing the spacious landscape inherited from its predecessor.
Collector’s Insight
For collectors, P-71 marks the dated stage of the twenty-rupee design and was introduced in September 2013 with Yuba Raj Khatiwada's signature. Its single deer links it directly to P-62, whereas the visible 2012 date and English bank name separate it from the undated issue; the later P-78 redesign then expands the reverse to two deer.
