Indra's colour-shifting image leads from Everest and Tengboche Monastery to a lone tiger crossing the muted reverse landscape.
Design & Symbolism
Obverse
Mount Everest opens the front beside a green-to-gold optically variable image of the god Indra. Mount Ama Dablam and Tengboche Monastery extend the Himalayan setting through the centre, accompanied by wood-carving motifs, clouds, a coin obverse and an NRB registration device within brown and violet engraving.
Reverse
One tiger walks across a sparse landscape beneath the English Nepal Rastra Bank title. Its striped body dominates the centre, replacing the pair of tigers associated with the preceding five-hundred-rupee design; the bank emblem and denomination remain low in the frame, leaving the animal almost entirely unobstructed.
Collector’s Insight
For collectors, the 2020 P-81 is the Maha Prasad Adhikari signature variety introduced in December 2021. Its single-tiger reverse is the immediate distinction from the older two-tiger type, while the Indra colour-shifting feature and Perum Peruri printing give the note a combination of religious imagery, wildlife and documented production identity uncommon within this group.
