ThemeCultural Heritage

Yellow and brown polymer fields present Nicaragua’s Caribbean coast through domestic labour, coastal architecture and the communal rhythm of Palo de Mayo.

Design & Symbolism

Obverse

The obverse combines a girl pounding grain with a typical house from Nicaragua’s Caribbean coast, set against a warm yellow field and large denomination structure. The see-through window with opaque white 20 and simulated security thread place the rural coastal imagery within a modern polymer format, while the composition keeps the human figure and dwelling as the central cultural reference.

Reverse

The reverse turns to Palo de Mayo, with five women dancing around a maypole beside Nicaragua’s coat of arms. The yellow-brown field, large denomination marks and pale blue iridescent strip with repeated 20 create a controlled polymer design around a distinctly regional cultural scene, linking the note to the Caribbean coast’s festive tradition.

Collector’s Insight

For collectors, this polymer circulation variety is distinguished from the earlier window type by its opaque white 20 in the see-through window. Its relevance lies in the 2012 release, Rosales signature, Giesecke+Devrient printing, simulated security thread, reverse iridescent strip, obverse-only UV activity and the pairing of Caribbean coastal life with Palo de Mayo imagery.
