Design & Symbolism

Obverse

Murtala Ramat Muhammed’s portrait rises from the left half, surrounded by fine green curves, denomination numerals and the Central Bank of Nigeria name. The bank emblem at the upper right balances the face without competing with it. Instead of a conventional paper security thread, the polymer structure uses transparent space and a CBN watermark, allowing the unprinted areas to become part of the front’s tightly controlled geometry.

Reverse

The back turns from military leadership to Ladi Kwali shaping Nigeria’s ceramic heritage, with bowls and vases gathered around her figure. A map places the craft within the nation, while the coat of arms closes the opposite side. The green palette remains continuous, yet the rounded vessels soften the front’s formal portrait grid and give the reverse a tactile quality unusual in a small circulating denomination.

Collector’s Insight

For collectors, P-34(2) is the second 2024 signature variety, pairing Governor Olayemi Michael Cardoso with Mohammed-Jamiu Olayemi Solaja. That distinction is central because an earlier 2024 issue carries Elizabeth Amos Kwaghe’s signature while preserving the same date and imagery. The variety therefore rewards attention to the signature panel rather than the main design, and it marks the first full Cardoso-era pairing in the long-running polymer twenty-naira sequence.
