Design & Symbolism
Obverse
Azikiwe is placed at left within a dense green portrait panel, with traditional Nigerian ornamental forms continuing through the background rather than isolating him in a plain frame. The denomination, bank name and bilingual inscriptions occupy the central area, accompanied by serial numbers and security motifs. His portrait reappears in the watermark beside electrotype CBN 500, while the windowed thread provides a strong vertical counterpoint.
Reverse
The offshore platform spreads across the reverse as an intricate network of supports, decks and cranes set above a quiet band of water. Green tonal layers distinguish the machinery from the underprint while preserving the detail of the industrial structure. The coat of arms and value inscriptions hold the edges, leaving the platform itself to convey the scale, technical ambition and economic weight of offshore oil production.
Collector’s Insight
For collectors, P-48(2) marks the second signature form dated 2025, replacing Solaja with Adetona Sikiru Adedeji beside Governor Cardoso. Because both notes share the same date, colour and Azikiwe–oil-platform imagery, the signature panel is the decisive point of attribution. The pair offers a focused modern variety study: a change in currency administration recorded within an otherwise stable high-denomination design.
