Design & Symbolism
Obverse
The national emblem provides the only figurative focus on a face composed from Korean lettering, denomination devices and repeating line patterns. Its central authority is reinforced by the absence of portraits or landscapes, while the cool two-colour printing keeps the small certificate visually precise.
Reverse
Layered guilloches occupy the reverse from edge to edge, with the value emerging from the geometric field rather than sitting above it. The design remains deliberately impersonal, suited to a certificate whose monetary role mattered more than pictorial storytelling.
Collector’s Insight
For collectors, P-25(2) belongs to the mauve-and-blue certificates connected with the 1995 Pyongyang International Sports and Culture Festival for Peace. Although dated 1988, this second capitalist colour group was introduced later and is catalogued separately from the earlier blue-green exchange notes. The ten-chon value helps complete a compact four-denomination fractional set.
