Three uniformed figures face the Korean War Victory Monument in a specimen shaped by military memory.
Design & Symbolism
Obverse
A pilot, sailor and soldier stand beneath a star beside Korean text and the national emblem. Blue, green and purple engraving binds the three service branches into a single frontal group. The boxed red specimen overprint and all-zero serial number identify the note as an archival or presentation form rather than circulating currency.
Reverse
The Korean War Victory Monument fills the reverse, centred on a soldier raising a flag. Monumental sculpture replaces the living figures of the face, carrying the design from military service toward a state-directed account of victory and remembrance.
Collector’s Insight
For collectors, P-59s is the specimen version of the ten-won note dated 2002 and introduced during the November 2009 currency replacement. Its Korean specimen box and zero serials distinguish it from the circulating note without altering the military design. The gap between printed date and release places the issue within one of North Korea’s most disruptive monetary transitions.
