Design & Symbolism
Obverse
The national coat of arms and mongnan blossoms occupy the face beside Korean inscriptions and prominent value devices. With no portrait or architectural vignette, the composition relies on botanical curves and layered green linework. A solid security thread bearing printed text runs through the otherwise decorative field.
Reverse
Korean text and guilloches fill the reverse in a restrained, non-pictorial arrangement. Repeated curves gather around the denomination, allowing security ornament and value to become the design rather than merely its frame.
Collector’s Insight
For collectors, P-61(2) carries a 2008 date and belongs to the currency replacement announced on 30 November 2009. The new notes began circulating on 7 December. Its simple imagery separates it from the monument- and landscape-led higher denominations, while the printed security thread and magnolia watermark place it firmly within the new series. The gap between printed date and release is an essential part of its attribution.
