A modest house in Hoeryong opens into birch-lined water and mountain distance across a restrained pink specimen.
Design & Symbolism
Obverse
The house identified as Kim Jong Suk’s birthplace stands beneath the national emblem and Korean inscriptions. Its low roofline and surrounding trees give the pink face an intimate scale uncommon among the series’ monuments and heroic figures. A boxed red Korean specimen overprint and all-zero serial number mark the note’s non-circulating status.
Reverse
Birch trees line the shore of Lake Samji with a mountain rising beyond the water. The reverse expands the domestic setting into a broader northern landscape, moving from commemorated birthplace toward geography and atmosphere.
Collector’s Insight
For collectors, P-64s is the specimen form of the 1,000-won note prepared with a 2008 date and introduced in November 2009. Its zero serials and boxed specimen mark distinguish it from circulation, while the subject places Kim Jong Suk’s birthplace within a series otherwise dominated by monuments and state emblems. The note gains further context from its later use as the base for a 2018 commemorative overprint.
