Magnolia blossoms and stars carry the new two-hundred-won value through a composition built almost entirely from national symbols.
Design & Symbolism
Obverse
The national emblem and magnolia blossoms occupy the blue, green and brown face beside Korean text and prominent value devices. Without a portrait or architectural vignette, the flowers become the main visual counterweight to the emblem. Security fibres are embedded in the paper rather than treated as a separate decorative feature.
Reverse
Stars and the denomination dominate the reverse in a spare, emblematic arrangement. The open field gives the value unusual prominence and continues the face’s reliance on symbols instead of a narrative scene.
Collector’s Insight
For collectors, P-48a(2) introduced 200 won as a new denomination in 2005. This variety is associated with security fibres and the large Chollima watermark, separating it from the small-watermark paper without changing the printed design. The combination of a newly inserted face value and a clearly attributable paper variety gives the note a defined place between the 2002 issues and later revaluation currency.
