A broad anniversary inscription crosses the violet Chollima design with an urgency absent from the earlier high values.
Design & Symbolism
Obverse
The Chollima Monument remains the dominant image, with a woman holding wheat and a man carrying a book riding the winged horse above Mansu Hill. A larger Korean seventieth-anniversary overprint occupies the left side, accompanied by a commemorative designation at right. The expanded markings were designed to remain conspicuous against the base note dated 2008.
Reverse
Korean text, denomination devices and guilloches fill the reverse without an added commemorative scene. The geometric field keeps the focus on the altered face and maintains a direct visual link to the regular 200-won issue.
Collector’s Insight
For collectors, this 2018 commemorative 200-won note belongs to the later part of the DPRK foundation-anniversary group. Earlier 1,000- and 2,000-won overprints were reportedly missed by merchants and could pass as ordinary currency, so the lower denominations received larger text and an explicit commemorative label. The conspicuous marking makes this lower-value issue a useful endpoint for comparing how the anniversary treatment evolved across the set.
