Mountain forms dominate both sides, binding an attributed birthplace to the high landscape of Mount Paektu.
Design & Symbolism
Obverse
Jong Il Peak rises behind trees and the cabin identified as Kim Jong Il’s birthplace. Korean inscriptions and the national emblem frame the light-blue and gray landscape, while the boxed red Korean specimen overprint and all-zero serial number sit across a design otherwise devoted to mountain memory.
Reverse
Fir trees lead toward Mount Paektu on the reverse. The wider view releases the face’s concentrated cabin-and-peak composition into open terrain, allowing the mountain itself to carry the note’s identity.
Collector’s Insight
For collectors, P-65s is the specimen form of the 2,000-won note dated 2008 and introduced during the November 2009 currency replacement. The boxed specimen mark and zero serials distinguish it from the circulating issue. Its paired mountain views make it one of the most landscape-driven denominations in the series, and the same base design later received the 2018 seventieth-anniversary overprint.
