Design & Symbolism
Obverse
Korean inscriptions and the national emblem sit within dense ornamental linework, with the five-chon value integrated into the surrounding security design. The face avoids narrative imagery, relying on measured spacing and colour contrast to establish denomination and state origin.
Reverse
The reverse is built entirely from guilloches and value markings. Curving lines gather around the denomination and then loosen toward the margins, producing a quiet visual pulse within the narrow horizontal format.
Collector’s Insight
For collectors, P-24(2) forms the five-chon step in the second colour group of North Korea’s 1988-dated capitalist foreign-exchange certificates. The group was reportedly reserved for participants in the April 1995 Pyongyang festival. Because the artwork closely follows the earlier capitalist certificates, palette and Pick subtype carry more attribution value than the shared composition.
