Design & Symbolism
Obverse
Korean text, the national emblem and denomination occupy a compact face enclosed by red-and-purple guilloche work. The emblem remains the principal image, while the limited palette separates the value from the single-red one-chon certificate in the same socialist series.
Reverse
Repeating curves and denomination devices structure the reverse. Purple deepens the red framework and gives this value an individual colour identity, even as the layout stays consistent with the other fractional exchange certificates.
Collector’s Insight
For collectors, P-32 is the five-chon member of the 1988 socialist foreign-exchange series. These red-toned certificates were issued for visitors exchanging currencies from socialist countries, remained in use until 1999 and were officially abolished in 2002. The denomination shows how colour, rather than a new pictorial subject, organised the fractional set.
