Design & Symbolism
Obverse
An industrial city spreads behind two workers: a man carries a large gear and a volume of Kim Il Sung’s collected works, while a woman holds wheat. Smokestacks, electrical pylons, trucks and a bridge crowd the horizon beneath the national emblem. The dense arrangement joins heavy industry, agriculture and political instruction without leaving an inactive part of the face.
Reverse
Mount Kumgang opens the reverse into a quieter landscape of trees and magnolia blossoms. Its layered peaks provide a natural counterweight to the machinery on the face. A red guilloche containing the numeral 5 identifies this P-19d certificate and places the exchange-control mark directly over the scenic composition.
Collector’s Insight
For collectors, P-19d belongs to the later guilloche group derived from the 1978 five-won issue. Introduced in 1984, the red-marked version was intended for capitalist visitors purchasing from other foreigners, a narrower function than the related red-seal certificate. That distinction makes the reverse overprint central to attribution even though the underlying industrial and mountain design remains unchanged.
