Design & Symbolism
Obverse
A national emblem, Korean text and the fifty-chon denomination share the face with closely worked guilloches. Mauve and blue remain subdued, allowing the value devices to lead a design stripped of portraits, architecture and landscape.
Reverse
Dense ornamental curves close around the denomination on the reverse. Their symmetry gives the small certificate a more formal finish than its size suggests, while the purely geometric treatment maintains continuity with the lower fractional values.
Collector’s Insight
For collectors, P-26(2) completes the chon-denominated section of the mauve-and-blue capitalist foreign-exchange group. The certificates carry a 1988 date but were reportedly introduced for attendees of the April 1995 Pyongyang festival. As the fifty-chon value, it provides the final fractional step before the corresponding won denominations and is best understood as part of the complete set.
