Design & Symbolism
Obverse
Korean text and the national emblem sit within a red-and-brown web of fine lines, with the fifty-chon denomination given clear visual weight. The face remains deliberately spare, allowing colour, value and state symbol to communicate function without a narrative vignette.
Reverse
The reverse continues the geometric vocabulary through layered guilloches and repeated value devices. Brown lends depth to the red framework, closing the fractional sequence with a darker and more grounded palette than the lower denominations.
Collector’s Insight
For collectors, P-34 completes the chon-denominated portion of the 1988 certificates made for visitors exchanging socialist-country currencies. The series circulated until 1999 and was officially abolished in 2002. As the fifty-chon value, it marks the transition from fractional certificates to the larger won denominations and gives a complete set a clear internal endpoint.
