Palace, bridge and magnolia move through green and purple engraving as Pyongyang becomes the note’s principal subject.
Design & Symbolism
Obverse
The Kumsusan Memorial Palace stands beneath the national emblem, surrounded by magnolia blossoms and Korean inscriptions. Green and purple linework gives the long façade a ceremonial stillness, while the shortened value banners identify the revised 2007 layout.
Reverse
Rungna Bridge crosses the Daedong River beside an olive branch. Its extended horizontal span opens the reverse after the palace’s frontal symmetry, presenting modern infrastructure as a second architectural face of the capital.
Collector’s Insight
For collectors, P-44c is the 2007-dated revision of North Korea’s five-hundred-won palace design. The value banners at the lower corners no longer extend to the edges, separating it from the closely related earlier issue. It also restores a precise catalogue link between a familiar architectural composition and the final pre-revaluation years of this denomination.
