Design & Symbolism
Obverse
Pyongyang’s Arch of Triumph dominates the face beneath Korean inscriptions and the national coat of arms. Gray and purple tones give the monument depth without surrounding it with additional narrative scenes. The boxed red Korean specimen overprint and all-zero serial number interrupt the formal architecture with an unmistakable archival designation.
Reverse
The reverse is composed from Korean text, denomination devices and layered guilloches. Its abstract field provides a calm counterpoint to the architectural weight of the face while maintaining the series’ consistent security language.
Collector’s Insight
For collectors, P-63s is the specimen version of the 500-won note dated 2008 and released during the currency replacement of late 2009. The specimen box and zero serials distinguish it from the circulating note, while the Arch of Triumph gives the denomination a single, immediately recognisable subject. It belongs to a specimen group that allows the complete revaluation series to be assembled in parallel with its circulation forms.
