Mangyongdae and the International Friendship Exhibition turn a high denomination into a journey between origin and display.
Design & Symbolism
Obverse
Trees and the houses at Mangyongdae identified as Kim Il Sung’s birthplace occupy the brown-and-pink face beneath the national emblem. A five-pointed star nested within a larger star adds a sharp geometric focus. The boxed red Korean specimen overprint and all-zero serial number identify this as the specimen form.
Reverse
The International Friendship Exhibition building stands within the mountain setting of Myohyangsan. Its formal architecture shifts the design from domestic origin to curated state display, giving the reverse a more monumental scale than the face.
Collector’s Insight
For collectors, P-67s is the specimen counterpart to the redesigned 5,000-won note dated 2013 and introduced in 2014. Unlike the preceding high denomination centred on Kim Il Sung’s portrait, this issue moves his birthplace to the face and introduces the exhibition complex on the reverse. The underlying design later supported several commemorative overprints, making the unaltered specimen an important reference point for the sequence.
