A compact anniversary inscription changes the familiar Mangyongdae design into a record of party commemoration.
Design & Symbolism
Obverse
The houses at Mangyongdae remain the principal image beneath the national emblem and nested star motif. An added Korean inscription marks the seventieth anniversary of the Workers’ Party of Korea, placing the commemorative message above a 2013-dated base design. Brown and pink engraving preserves the restrained character of the underlying issue.
Reverse
The International Friendship Exhibition building at Myohyangsan remains unchanged on the reverse. Its mountain setting and formal façade provide continuity with the regular 5,000-won note, leaving the front overprint to carry the new commemorative meaning.
Collector’s Insight
For collectors, P-CS19 was introduced in 2015 for the Workers’ Party’s seventieth anniversary and uses the regular 2013-dated 5,000-won design as its base. Although known with all-zero serial numbers, contemporary catalogue research reports that these notes should not automatically be treated as specimens. That distinction makes the issue an instructive example of why serial format alone cannot determine banknote type.
