An anniversary overprint draws a new biographical layer across the established Mangyongdae and Myohyangsan design.
Design & Symbolism
Obverse
Mangyongdae’s houses, trees, the national emblem and the star-within-a-star device remain visible beneath a Korean commemorative inscription. Added for the centenary of Kim Jong Suk’s birth, the overprint changes the purpose of the 2013-dated base note without replacing its brown-and-pink architectural composition.
Reverse
The International Friendship Exhibition building occupies the reverse against the slopes of Myohyangsan. With no added reverse narrative, the unchanged scene keeps the issue visually connected to the regular 5,000-won note while the face supplies the centenary context.
Collector’s Insight
For collectors, P-CS20 was introduced in 2017 to mark the centenary of Kim Jong Suk’s birth. It belongs to a short succession of commemorative uses of the 2013-dated 5,000-won design, following the party-anniversary issue but carrying a different biographical purpose. Comparison of the front inscriptions is therefore more important than the shared architecture when separating these related notes.
