Design & Symbolism

Obverse

The obverse is built around a frankincense tree in Dhofar and Ain Kour lake, set beneath Arabic text and the Omani coat of arms with crossed swords and khanjar. The crossed swords and khanjar also serve as a registration device, giving the half-rial denomination a clear national centre. Green, red, orange and purple tones connect the cultivated landscape with Oman’s commemorative sixth-series design language.

Reverse

The reverse places a perched Sooty falcon beside a striding Arabian leopard, with another falcon in flight crossing the upper field. The composition shifts from landscape and incense tree on the obverse to protected fauna, allowing the note to read as a compact portrait of Oman’s natural world. Pale silver iridescent details and the Combifluo thread add a technical layer to the wildlife scene without disrupting its quiet movement.
