ThemeIndustry & Infrastructure

The curved glazing of Oman's Botanic Garden opens into a clear window beside Sultan Haitham's portrait and a frankincense tree.

Design & Symbolism

Obverse

Sultan Haitham bin Tariq appears on the right, facing the broad sweep of the Botanic Garden's arched structure. A frankincense tree occupies the opposite end, with a smaller colour-shifting version nearby. The transparent area follows the architecture, allowing the building's outline to remain visible even where printed colour gives way to the surface behind the note.

Reverse

Duqm Port and its refinery are arranged with the Sayyid Tarik bin Taimour Cultural Complex. The repeated garden window cuts a large curved shape through the composition, contrasting with the straighter lines of the industrial and cultural buildings. These are identifiable recent projects, placing production, transport and cultural facilities together in a view of contemporary Oman.

Collector’s Insight

For collectors, P-56 marks Oman's first polymer banknote, released on 11 January 2026 with a printed 2025 date. It was issued for circulation alongside existing notes. The separately offered presentation envelopes and uncut sheets were collector formats of this release; their limited quantities should not be mistaken for the total production of the circulating one-rial note.
