The tomb of Allama Iqbal settles into muted brown and lilac, giving this late one-rupee issue the gravity of a miniature memorial.

Design & Symbolism

Obverse

Urdu text and denomination markers surround Pakistan's crescent and star in a compact field of brown, pale blue, orange and lilac linework. There is no portrait; the national emblems remain the focus, with Mian Tayyab Hasan's signature and the serial number providing the issue-specific evidence.

Reverse

Allama Muhammad Iqbal's Lahore tomb occupies the reverse, its low red-sandstone mass presented frontally beneath the bank name. The accompanying Urdu maxim translates as 'Earning legal livelihood is equal to prayer,' placing the poet's memorial beside a moral statement about work and responsibility.

Collector’s Insight

For collectors, P-27m closes the main 1990s signature progression of this one-rupee design. Mian Tayyab Hasan's signature and the documented JF-NK prefix range separate it cleanly from the preceding Javed Talat variety. That narrow chronological position gives the note value as an endpoint in a signature-led run.
