Design & Symbolism
Obverse
Pakistan's crescent and five-pointed star replace the portrait format on this small denomination. Urdu lettering, denomination numerals and purple, blue and pink guilloche create a dense but orderly front, completed by Aftab Ghulam Nabi Kazi's signature and the serial number.
Reverse
Badshahi Mosque in Lahore fills the reverse with its domes, minarets and long ceremonial facade. The architectural view is presented directly, allowing the building's rhythm to carry the composition. English and Urdu inscriptions and the denomination sit around the mosque without weakening its strong horizontal presence.
Collector’s Insight
For collectors, P-37(1) is the first signature variety of a two-rupee design that continued through several governors. Aftab Ghulam Nabi Kazi's signature and the 1985 introduction establish the starting point for that sequence. It is therefore most useful as the opening reference in a signature-based set, not simply as a low denomination.
