Blue curves run from a bird's plumes to shell money and tusks, with Parliament's angular entrance interrupting their sweep.
Design & Symbolism
Obverse
The blue Parliament building faces slightly towards the viewer, its decorated entrance rising at the right of the long façade. Above the roofline, the bird of paradise rests on a Kundu drum and ceremonial spear. A clear bank-logo window sits in the pale yellow area beside the building.
Reverse
The Tami bowl forms a dark horizontal centre, with a bird-of-paradise skin fanning out behind it. A ring of Tambu shell money and curved boar tusks enclose the right side, while smaller shells hang below. The shell money is associated with New Britain and the tusks with the Highlands.
Collector’s Insight
For collectors, P-52 continues the blue ten-kina design in the reduced-size regular series, following the 2020 printing with a new signature pairing in 2023. Comparison with early paper ten-kina notes is particularly revealing: the traditional valuables remain recognisable, while Parliament House has replaced the large central arms as the front's principal subject.
