An aircraft, mining truck and cargo ship occupy the green-and-gold reverse opposite Parliament House on this hundred-kina note.
Design & Symbolism
Obverse
Parliament House rises beneath the bank's name, its decorated gable turned towards the viewer. The national arms and thirty-fifth-anniversary emblem share the left side, while a broad pale area separates the architecture from the value. Green and gold are the dominant colours.
Reverse
A cargo ship occupies the lower centre, with a jet, oil installation, dump truck and communications tower grouped around it. Palm, fish, timber and shells appear among the machinery. The montage brings Papua New Guinea's natural resources, extraction industries and transport systems onto the same face.
Collector’s Insight
For collectors, this hundred kina is the higher denomination of the two-note paper issue released for Kina and Toea Day in 2009. Both notes retain the printed date 2008 and the bank's thirty-fifth-anniversary logo. The industrial reverse distinguishes it sharply from the traditional valuables on the accompanying twenty kina, giving the pair two different accounts of economic life.
