Parliament's steep roof and a Mount Hagen axe occupy opposite faces of this pale-green central-bank anniversary note.
Design & Symbolism
Obverse
Parliament House in Port Moresby stretches diagonally across the face, its decorated entrance rising towards the right. The national arms occupy the upper left, while a small emblem commemorates the central bank's thirty-fifth anniversary. A clear window sits beside the building in the green and yellow field.
Reverse
An axe from Mount Hagen lies across the centre among a Kula armband from Milne Bay, a Bougainville dogs' tooth necklace and a Sepik clay pot. The shell, tooth and clay objects overlap against a background of tapa-cloth patterns.
Collector’s Insight
For collectors, the anniversary here is the Bank of Papua New Guinea's foundation in 1973, not national independence in 1975. That distinction separates this two kina from the 2010 independence commemorative. The bank later revisited its own anniversary on the 2013 two kina, creating a small sequence of institutional commemoratives on the same denomination.
