A coloured independence-anniversary badge stands above violet Parliament walls, opposite a Hombuli mask, shell valuables and seed necklaces.
Design & Symbolism
Obverse
The triangular entrance of Parliament House cuts across the violet field, with the bird-of-paradise arms above its lower roofline. A small logo marked for the 1975–2010 anniversary appears near the top. The transparent window sits to the right of the building.
Reverse
Shell necklaces curve around the pointed face of a Hombuli mask, with the broad kina shell set beside it. The mask comes from the Sepik region, the kina shell from the Highlands, the shell necklace from Milne Bay and the seed necklace from New Ireland. Patterned cloth motifs fill the background.
Collector’s Insight
For collectors, the 2010 emblem celebrates thirty-five years of independence, unlike the central-bank anniversary on the 2008 issues. It forms part of a six-denomination polymer commemorative set. Alongside the paper Silver Jubilee five kina of 2000, it records two national anniversaries through the same traditional-money reverse, separated by a substantial change in the front design and material.
