The carved Hombuli face and curved shell necklaces retain their detail within a compact wash of violet and pale gold.
Design & Symbolism
Obverse
Parliament House fills the middle of the shortened composition, its high decorated entrance set against a pale field. The bird-of-paradise arms stand above the left-hand roof, and the bank-logo window occupies the right. This regular design carries no anniversary badge.
Reverse
A Highlands kina shell and regional necklaces surround the Hombuli mask. Shellwork from Milne Bay and seedwork from New Ireland form loops around its pointed face. The clustered engraving extends across the violet field, beside the transparent window.
Collector’s Insight
For collectors, the 2024 printing belongs to the reduced-size five-kina family that followed the earlier, longer polymer notes. It introduces the Genia–Oaeke signatures to this regular type. Placing it beside the 2000 paper or 2010 polymer commemorative traces the continued use of the same reverse through changes in dimensions, bank leadership and commemorative treatment.
