Mabini and Bonifacio share the face, while Barasoain Church and a Katipunan oath scene turn the reverse into a compact account of reform and revolution.
Design & Symbolism
Obverse
Portraits of Apolinario Mabini and Andres Bonifacio stand together at the left, with Bonifacio slightly forward against brown, blue and red security work. The Katipunan flag, the Kartilya ng Katipunan and Mabini's El Verdadero Decalogo appear around the central inscriptions, joined by an inkwell and quill. Black serial numbers cross the pale field, while the double-portrait watermark repeats the alliance of figures within the paper itself.
Reverse
Barasoain Church anchors the left side of the reverse, accompanied by women seated beneath a tree with baskets of palm fronds. At right, a framed scene shows new Katipunan members signing their names in blood beside daggers, a skull and a flag. The two vignettes place civic assembly and revolutionary initiation within one continuous historical panorama.
Collector’s Insight
For collectors, P-187c is identified by the combination of black serial numbers and a double watermark showing Mabini and Bonifacio. That separates it from the 1998 single-figure watermark variety and from the red-number form using the same paired watermark. The distinction is especially satisfying because the security feature echoes the two portraits on the face, making the variety visible as part of the note's historical concept rather than as an isolated technical change.
