An iridescent Palawan peacock-pheasant and a rare orange orchid introduce the hundred-piso denomination to the expanded polymer family.

Design & Symbolism

Obverse

The Palawan peacock-pheasant stands prominently across the left half, its blue-green plumage set against a violet polymer field. A Ceratocentron fesselii orchid is represented in the small clear window, while the Bangko Sentral seal and a vertical transparent security feature balance the right. The composition replaces the presidential portrait of the paper issue with endemic fauna and flora without changing the denomination's established colour.

Reverse

Mayon Volcano dominates the reverse, rising behind a whale shark that crosses the lower foreground. The Philippine map enters from the left and a Bicol weave design is incorporated along the right edge, preserving the regional imagery associated with earlier hundred-piso notes. Clear-window motifs add depth to the violet scene and emphasize the different visual possibilities of polymer.

Collector’s Insight

For collectors, P-238 is the inaugural 2024 date of this hundred-piso polymer design. It forms a particularly instructive pair with the 2023 P-232: both retain Mayon Volcano and the whale shark, yet the newer note abandons Roxas, paper and watermark-based security in favour of endemic species and transparent features. Few consecutive Philippine types show the shift in design philosophy and substrate so directly.
